Footy Update - July 2010
Fellow Tigers,
After a stop-start season like none other than before, we can now finally get down to business without any further interruptions as we head into the home straight of the regular season. With just 5 games to go for the seniors and 4 for the ressies (a bye to come), both teams are well placed to vie for a top 2 finish and the all important double chance. All things being equal, as a club I think we have done a really good job to be in the position we are in at the moment, as our unavailability rate has been astronomical to say least.....however, with the business end of the season looming its critical that we continue to stay united, work hard and give ourselves every opportunity to perform well come finals time. With a high number of players expected back in the coming weeks from injury, work and holidays, the battle for spots on both teams is going to get tough, so get yourself to training and make the selectors job all the harder.
From a senior club perspective there's plenty happening around the club at the moment, so below is some commentary to keep you updated.
State Reps
A special congratulations to our senior captain Kieran Daley on his selection in the Qld Country State Team. 'KD' will head of to Canberra to play in the championships - lets hope he packs his winter woollies....This is huge achievement and one that I'm sure everyone agree is thoroughly deserved.
Also congrats to Josh Williams (son of Mick and Shaz) from our juniors on being selected in the Qld U/12 Schoolboys State Team. Josh will travel to Perth to compete in the carnival.
Thursday Night $5 Feeds
Numbers have dipped a little in recent weeks, (must be the chilly nights) so please try and stick around after training and support the club and in particular the tireless efforts of the ladies who ensure we get well fed every week.
Player Availability
A big thanks for the ongoing efforts of all players for making myself and the other coaches aware of your movements in regards to training and playing. Receiving a simple text and knowing where someone is makes team selection so much easier and lessens late changes on game day. Thanks heaps.
Townsville Cup
Big Dan is organising a Tigers day at the Townsville Cup. If you are interested in attending please touch base with the big fella, but please don't go shaking his hand too hard as we cant afford to further damage to his busted pinky.....
Our reserves have the bye cup weekend and our seniors play at TIS on the Friday night at 8pm. It would be great too see the ressies boys at the ground enjoying a cold beverage (or two) and politely cheering your team mates on.
Senior Club Photos
Its that time of the year where we have to smile for the camera. Senior club photos will be taken at our ground on Sunday July 25 at noon. Please bring you're boots, socks and shorts. The bar will be open and there will be some snags on the BBQ. Your attendance at this is appreciated and if you are limited in time, it wont take longer than 30 minutes. Orders will be taken by the photographer on the day, so if you wish to order please bring your money on the day, the costs are:
10" X 8" Team Photo $15.00
Individual portrait package $15.00
Both of the above $25.00
Miss Hermit Park
Its back again by popular demand. Saturday 31 July our closet dressers will come out of the closet and strut their stuff on the catwalk. Crocs captain Russell Hinder will be one of our guest judges and if last years event is anything to go by we are in for a great night's entertainment with plenty of laughs. Bring your friends, entry is free and it all kicks off in the club rooms around 7pm.
Erin John's Cup day - July 31
This is one of the biggest days for ourselves and Curra and this year we are the hosts. Its always a great day at the footy, so bring the family along and hopefully we can put on a good show and retain the cup for another year.
Regards,
Barry Gibson
