Wounded Bulldogs make Hermit Park feel their pain
HERMIT Park were forced to suffer first-hand the wrath of a Thuringowa team stung by defeat.
A ruthless Bulldogs put last week's shock loss to Curra behind them with an imposing 14.6 (90) to 6.11 (47) triumph in week five of the AFL Townsville Premiership at Tony Ireland Stadium.
Victory was set up in the first half as the defending premiers booted seven goals to the Tigers' one.
After the sting of their 58-point defeat to Curra intensified during the week, 'Dogs playing coach Paul Sanson admitted it would have taken a good team to stop them on Saturday afternoon.
"It was something that we weren't used to (losing), and we certainly hadn't underestimated the Swans ... but we were a bit disappointed to lose the way we did," he said.
"So it was certainly an extra motivation to bounce back. It was a chance at redemption in a small way."
Curra proved last week's ground-breaking win over Thuringowa was no fluke, though.
The Swans put the struggling University Hawks to the sword at Muldoon Oval 17.12 (114) to 5.6 (36) to record their first back-to-back victories in about a decade, and their third in four games in 2011.
Rohan Brown and Cameron Leman led the goalkickers for Thuringowa with three each, but Sanson saved his highest praise for his defence, in particular Darren Lange and Scott Ebbelaar.
"The whole six of them, they kept us in the competition," he said. "They just kept denying the opposition and then we capitalised."
